FDA expands health alert about ground cinnamon contaminated with lead

SAN FRANCISCO — United States health officials expanded a 2024 health alert about high levels of lead in ground cinnamon containers Wednesday.

The Food and Drug Administration's warning began in July 2024 and has expanded four times since.

Now, more than a dozen packaged ground cinnamon brands sold at outlets including Dollar Tree, Patel Brothers and Eurogrocery stores in several states are impacted.

The latest health alert and voluntary recall impacts Durra -brand and Wise Wife -brand ground cinnamon, which was sold in California and Michigan, and New Jersey, New York, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Ohio respectively.

The FDA recommended companies recall the products, and most now have. Consumers should discard and avoid purchasing these ground cinnamon products.
