What is Proposition 50?

Gov. Gavin Newsom, along with other California lawmakers, are proposing new congressional district maps for the 2026 through 2030 elections. The proposition, also known as the Election Rigging Response Act, is a response to President Donald Trump's 2025 Texas redistricting plan aimed at increasing Republican-controlled seats in Congress, according to the state's official voter guide.
