CHARDON, Ohio — The Geauga County courthouse expansion is facing an additional cost of $32,000 to add swinging doors for magistrate benches — a cost commissioners say stems from a design error that should have been caught earlier.

The change order from Infinity Construction Company involves installing the doors and removing portions of the already-built benches.

A representative from TDA Architects and Judge Carolyn Paschke told commissioners during a meeting Tuesday that the doors are needed to give magistrates two secure ways to enter and exit the bench, which is standard for security and logistical reasons.
