NEW ORLEANS ( WVUE /Gray News) - The last of 10 inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail in May has been captured, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Derrick Groves was captured by Atlanta police after he was found hiding in a home in the area.
Groves, 31, escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans on May 16, 2025, along with nine other inmates in what has become one of Louisiana’s most high-profile jail breaks in decades.
While most of the escapees were captured within weeks, Groves remained at large for nearly five months.
Federal investigators previously said they believe Groves received help from outside accomplices, including a former jail employee and girlfriend, Darriana Burton, who has since been arrested and charged with aiding the escape.
