The Directorate General of Health Services has issued a strong directive to all states and Union Territories, urging stricter testing of pharmaceutical products following the tragic deaths of 20 children linked to contaminated Coldrif cough syrup.
Four new deaths were reported in Madhya Pradesh in the last 24 hours alone, with investigations revealing that some cold syrups, which should not have been administered to children under four years of age, were still being sold.
The regulator emphasised that manufacturers must comply with the Drugs Rules, conduct thorough batch testing of both raw materials and finished products, and source ingredients only from approved vendors.
