The Tigard City Council appointed a new mayor Tuesday, marking a new chapter for the city that saw its previous mayor, Heidi Lueb, step down last month, days before an investigation into her workplace conduct was released.

Councilor Yi-Kang Hu won the vote of his colleagues 5-1, with Councilor Jeanette Shaw, who also vied for the job, being the lone no vote.

“It may be cliché, but I really love this city,” Hu told the council in an emotional testimony. “It’s where my husband, Abram, and I built our life, where I started my business and where neighbors have become friends.”

Hu will serve the remainder of Lueb’s term, which runs through the end of 2026.
