KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Tigers, Jayhawks and Wildcats could soon be placing wagers on the Chiefs and Royals.
On Wednesday, the NCAA’s Division I Administrative Committee adopted a proposal that would allow student-athletes and athletics department staff members to bet on professional sports. The rule change must be approved by all three NCAA divisions and would be effective Nov. 1 if approved, the NCAA said.
The NCAA said the D1 Administrative Committee was directed to make the change by the Division I Board of Directors, but claimed the rule change is not an endorsement of sports betting. The proposal was introduced in June.
