PEORIA, Ill. – A man will spend most of his life in prison for his role in a deadly dice game in Peoria’s North Valley two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 23-year-old Ronnie Simmons was sentenced on Wednesday to 60 years for First Degree Murder in the death of Demetrious Davis.
Simmons was also sentenced to ten years for an Aggravated Battery with a Firearm conviction. He must serve the sentences back-to-back, and all of the 60 years on the murder charge. Simmons was convicted in July.
Prosecutors say Simmons had been losing money in a dice game and repeatedly left to get more money to play, eventually pulling out a gun and attempting to rob the victims on his final return. Simmons then shot Davis and a second victim who tried to disarm him, with Davis lat
