The wayback machine was set to the 1990s and mid-2000s last Friday night at the Palace Theatre in Albany as three acts from those periods gave confident and satisfying performances before a modest but appreciative audience.

First to appear was Vertical Horizon. The Washington, D.C., outfit, formed in 1991, played a sparkling, too-short 30-minute set leaning heavily on its 1999 breakthrough album “Everything You Want.” That double-platinum album featured four singles, and all were included Friday night, with the anthemic title track and No. 1 hit closing the band's performance. The crowd was up and into it from the start, many singing along to the songs.
