With Halloween around the corner, and costume shopping underway, the BC SPCA is reminding pet owners of how especially hair-raising this holiday can be for their pets.
Dressing up, trick-or-treating, setting off fireworks and hitting up neighbourhood block parties are fun for many of us, but for the majority of animals, according to the BC SPCA, it leads to serious stress.
“On Halloween, people are on high alert and very emotional when they call in…Most of the calls involve a high number of animals who are hit by cars,” says Aco Atyeo.
Atyeo is the night emergency officer at the Vancouver BC SPCA’s Night Emergency Patrol (NEP) program, which cares for injured animals after-hours.
