LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Construction of Fayette County Public Schools’ new Rise STEM Academy for Girls has left neighbors frustrated.
In August, FCPS announced plans to acquire more land for the school through eminent domain .
Several homeowners have filed a lawsuit . Now, neighbors have another concern as a result of the project: flooding.
They say the removal of trees and greenery from the property has caused their yards to become flooded when it rains.
“The water was rushing like Niagara Falls. It was coming through the floors. That’s the concrete floors that cracked open in the basement,” said homeowner Rebecca White.
As White watches her property be ruined, her neighbors are at risk of losing portions of theirs through eminent domain.
“They’re wrecking the lives of people th
