The last of 10 inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail earlier this year was recaptured in Atlanta, Ga. after nearly five months on the run, authorities announced Wednesday.
Derrick Groves, 28, was arrested around 1 p.m. at a residence in southwest Atlanta, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said in a statement.
He was taken into custody following a “brief standoff” with police, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Groves was among 10 detainees who escaped the Orleans Parish Prison in the early hours of May 16 in a bold breakout that drew national attention and sparked turmoil among state officials.
Four men were caught within two days of the escape, and by late June, nine had been recaptured.
