EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Evansville Fire Department has raised concerns about the potential dangers of lithium-ion batteries during Fire Prevention Week.
Deputy Fire Chief Kim Garrett of the Evansville Fire Department discussed the risks associated with these batteries, which are commonly found in everyday items like phones and laptops.
"We utilize lithium-ion batteries for part of our everyday life," Garrett said. "There are a lot of things that can cause... overheating is one of the big things how they can explode potentially or fail. Another thing is if they receive any kind of physical damage like if they are dropped," said Garrett.
To reduce risks, Garrett advised taking precautions with charging practices.
