WOODRUFF, S.C. (WSPA) - Wednesday marked the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Libertas Academy Woodruff and Riverbend Athletic Complex.
Libertas Academy Woodruff, or LAW, will be the first tuition-free public charter school in the Woodruff area.
LAW School Director Celina Patton said for the opening year they will accept four-year-old kindergarten (4K) through 6th grade students.
"For the first year, we're going to expect 700 [students]. And then we're going to add one grade level," Patton said. "Seventh and eighth grades at full matriculation will be 1,000 students."
Patton said the school's curriculum is rooted in research.
