MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – If you’re an Xcel Energy customer, you may be seeing a hike on your monthly electric bill soon.

The company is proposing a roughly 19% rate increase in North Dakota.

In North Dakota, Xcel Energy provides power to customers in at least 26 communities across three main hubs—Minot, Grand Forks and Fargo.

A recent rate hike proposal is raising concerns for customers like Miranda Schuler in Minot, who rely on Xcel.

“I can’t say ‘Hey, I’m upset with Xcel and I want to switch over to Verendrye.’ I don’t have that option,” said Schuler.

Schuler, who said she’s not in favor of the hike, uses Xcel for both her home and business.

“This is certainly larger than other rate cases we’ve had in the recent past. $45 million is a massive ask,” said Victor Schock.
