CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The City of Cedar Rapids released a statement addressing Escucha Mi Voz’s challenge to protest restrictions outside Homeland security offices.

Last week, Escucha Mi Voz issued a statement to the city regarding a portion of the lawn, identified as a public right-of-way, being roped off without a permit by Homeland Security at the ICE office on Square Drive.

Escucha Mi Voz says the city manager confirmed that the front lawn of the ICE facility is a “public right-of-way under Cedar Rapids jurisdiction.”

On Wednesday, the city addressed concerns about the public right-of-way outside the Homeland Security offices at 3351 Square D Drive SW.

City staff identified an anomaly in the deed records, prompting the city to extend the boundary of the DHS property.
