INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - A 10-year-old girl is speaking out after being struck by a car while riding her bike Sunday, hoping her story will remind drivers to pay attention behind the wheel.
Sofia Silvey was doing what she does every day, riding her bike with a friend near College and Lakeview. That’s when a woman in a red sedan hit her while turning left, then drove away without stopping.
“I didn’t really realize what happened in the moment. But once I got up, I saw her just staring at me through the driver’s side mirror,” Sofia said.

Her father, Blake Silvey, calls his daughter Wonder Woman and was relieved to see her walking after the collision. He’s frustrated that the driver didn’t
