KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Lenexa man accused of shooting at a Shawnee police officer is deemed competent to stand trial.

It happened during a court hearing for 19-year-old Isaac Ortiz on Oct. 8.

According to a memo from the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, Oritz was arrested on June 17, 2025, after exchanging gunfire with a Shawnee police officer.

Earlier that morning, he had allegedly taken a 9mm handgun and a truck from his friend without permission.

Within an hour, a concerned citizen called the police to report that Oritz was stopped at the intersection of 67th and Lackman. Oritz told the citizen that the truck wouldn’t move, but refused his help.
