LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A school with no windows is one step closer to finally being replaced.

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) broke ground Wednesday morning on a new Okolona Elementary School.

With all the new upgrades, some students are hopeful the changes will better serve their learning.

"I'm just glad that the future Tigers and the future Cubs will have whatever they need to get the most education to be one of the best students in the school," student Graxceldie Aristide said.

Student Leonardo Galicia added, "this school is going to be so big and so amazing.”

The new changes are designed to make the school more energy efficient, and will have a new open courtyard, geo-thermal heating and LED lighting.
