ANDOVER, Kan. (KAKE) - It's Banned Books Week across the nation, but some local libraries are choosing not to create displays promoting the long-standing tradition- partially due to potential political backlash and partially because of comments and threats it has received in years past.
Banned Books Week is not a new concept; in fact, it's been around since 1982. It was created in response to a sudden surge in the number of censorship challenges in schools and libraries back in the 80s.
