RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond Mayor Danny Avula is asking Gov. Glenn Youngkin for $80 million in state funding to help prevent a repeat of last winter’s water crisis that left residents without water.

Avula sent a letter to the governor Wednesday requesting the funds to support the city’s $1.4 billion plan to overhaul Richmond’s water infrastructure over the next decade.

The mayor warned that without state assistance, Richmond may be forced to raise residents’ utility bills or delay other critical infrastructure projects to fund the necessary improvements.
