Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed an executive order on Wednesday that requires all state government agencies and departments to use E-Verify and SAVE to confirm work eligibility and citizenship status for all potential employees.

This action comes two days after Des Moines Public Schools confirmed they do not currently use E-Verify when vetting applicants for employment.

On Monday, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security could not find any records that DMPS had been enrolled in E-Verify. Grassley's concerns were sparked by the Sept. 26 arrest by federal immigration officials of then-DMPS superintendent Ian Roberts. According to DHS, Roberts is not a U.S. citizen and does not have authorization to be in the United States.
