PAPILLION, Neb. —

Safety is top of mind for people who use the Papio Creek Trail in Bellevue and Papillion. It’s part of the Papillion Police Departments latest initiative to keep trails safe according to Police Chief Chris Whitted.

"Anything that's battery operated needs to be an e-bike, a scooter or mobility type of device that would legal anything other than that is generally considered illegal for trail use,” Chief Whitted said.

Whitted says the department has heard the concerns of trail users. Starting this month Papillion police will be patrolling by bike, foot, UTV, and drone.

"Just making sure that we're informing those that maybe we see not operating safely, we'd like to gain voluntary compliance before we start citing people,” Whitted said.
