ARLINGTON – Despite a significant shot advantage, the Arlington girls soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Middlesex League foe Melrose on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite firing 18 shots on net, it took a Misha Zykorie goal in the final minutes for the Spy Ponders (6-1-4) to tie the game. Head coach Michael Schena said the issues stemmed from capitalizing on chances.

“It felt good to tie, but we have to execute better as a team,” Schena said. “I thought we came back and played a full second half, but when you have 18 shots, you need to score more than one goal.”

Melrose (6-5-2) managed just seven shots on net, but this was somewhat by design as the Red Hawks deployed a defensive approach with the intention of winning a low-scoring game.
