MINDEN, Iowa —
Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs broke ground on six townhomes in Minden on Wednesday.
It's another step forward for the community after a tornado destroyed nearly half of the town's housing on April 26, 2024.
Blake Johnson, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs, said several organizations worked together to make it possible. Those include the Pottawattamie County Housing Trust Fund, Iowa West Foundation, and Metro Area Planning Agency.
The project also received a $1.2 million boost from a federal disaster recovery grant.
The homes will cost $175,000 each and include two beds, two bathrooms and a two-car garage. Habitat for Humanity down payment assistance is also available.
They are expected to be ready for move-in in 2026.
