On October 7, the Student Government Association at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga voted to recommend against approving a chapter of Turning Point USA , a conservative student-activism organization, on campus.
Despite the recommendation, the final decision rests with the Dean of Students Office, which will determine the outcome in accordance with university policy and state law.
In a statement, UTC Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing Dr. Jay Blackman said the university recognizes all organizations that properly complete the registration process and is working to ensure students are appropriately supported as they navigate the approval process.
