DULUTH — While competing at the Swain Invitational last week at Enger Golf Course, Superior senior Elena Almonte was forced to make a difficult decision on the course.
With knee issues plaguing her on one of the most physically taxing courses in the state, Almonte pulled out of the race as a precaution and under the guidance of her head coach, Lee Sims.
The choice, while painful at the time, proved to be the right one.
“It was definitely a hard decision to make, but I made it in hopes that it would help today,” she said. “And I’m really glad that I did make that decision because it really helped a lot.”
Feeling spry and full of adrenaline on race day at the Lake Superior Conference Championship on Wednesday, Almonte navigated the 5,000-meter course at Grand View Golf Course with aplomb
