CARTHAGE, TEXAS. - Carthage has long been known for producing legends like Tex Ritter and Jim Reeves, two country-music giants that helped put this small Texas town on the map.

But nearly a century after those stars rose to fame, it's newest attention-getter is shining bright -- just 45 minutes southwest of Shreveport.

The talker of the town is about the size of a golf ball... and was discovered by 51 year old Robert Lewis Jr.

Lewis was mowing his front yard back in 2016, when something glittered beneath the grass.

“I come across this black, shiny… black-green looking stone,” Lewis recalled. “I just knew it was something different.”
