Students in the Steelton-Highspire School District will not return to classes until Oct. 14, according to a statement on the district’s website.

The district opted to cancel in-person classes on Wednesday after a 26-year-old man was killed and his brother was injured in a shooting around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday .

On Wednesday, the school district announced it would be closed on Thursday, Oct. 9.

In addition, an early dismissal day scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10 will now be a professional development day for staff, meaning students will not report to school.

On Monday, Oct. 13, schools will be closed in observance of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day, the district’s website said.
