There’s something about home openers that brings out the best in the Maple Leafs.
A breakaway by Matthew Knies, finished off by a goal from Morgan Rielly, brought to life a crowd that had been loudest with chants of “Let’s go Blue Jays.”
It was an electrifying breakaway by Knies, who recovered the puck after Montreal’s Sam Montembeault made the initial save and fed Rielly for the winning goal in Wednesday night’s 5-2 decision over the Canadiens.
