GREENSBORO, N.C. — Just off College Road in Greensboro sits a home Franklin Glover built nearly four decades ago — a place he thought had seen it all.

“This house was new when I put it up — been here since ’86,” Glover said, standing near his now repaired steel fence.

While the steady hum of traffic is something Glover and his wife have long tuned out, the noise that woke them one night was anything but routine.

“All of a sudden around one in the morning — bam,” he recalled. “Heard all that noise and everything.”

A car had come crashing through his fence.

“We jumped up, looked out the window — the front car sitting right here,” Glover said, pointing to where the wreck happened.
