NEW ORLEANS, La. (KLFY) -- Escaped inmate Derrick Groves was apprehended after a tip to Crimestoppers led police to his location, ending a months-long search.
Groves was the last of ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail in May. His arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by state police, who used gas canisters and a K-9 unit to locate him in a crawlspace in the basement of a house.
The operation to capture Groves took approximately three hours, during which multiple gas canisters were deployed into the house.
According to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, a pistol and 15 pounds of marijuana were discovered at the scene, and Groves was not alone, suggesting that more arrests are anticipated.
