NEW ORLEANS — While Derrick Groves was on the run, the cases against nine other escapees have been moving through the court system in New Orleans.
Each of the men has pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple escape; the charge added to the individual legal trouble they were already facing at the time of the Orleans Justice Center escape.
Currently, the court is weighing whether Corey Boyd, who is facing second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder charges, and Kendell Myles, also facing attempted second-degree murder charges in a separate incident, are mentally competent to stand trial.
