There’s a certain kind of player Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube likes: Big, strong, fast and just a little bit fearless.

Bobby McMann — at six-feet-two, 215 pounds — fits that bill.

“I liked Bobby (McMann) a lot tonight,” said Berube. “Skated well. Hard on pucks. Got to the net.”

McMann took Berube’s constant preaching to heart. He went to the net on his first shift, rewarded with the first goal of the Leafs season, just one minute into Toronto’s 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

“That’s cool,” said McMann. “All summer you try to work on your game, try and do what you can to score more maybe. It’s nice to get the first one.”

He scored 20 last season, and joined John Tavares and William Nylander on the second line in training camp. It was easily the most effective line of the
