WELLSVILLE, N.Y. — Four people were hospitalized Wednesday after a suspected carbon monoxide incident at the Alfred State campus in Wellsville.

The university evacuated the culinary arts building as a precaution.

Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps dispatched four ambulances to the scene. Several other students and staff were evaluated on-site and cleared.

The university told 2 On Your Side through a statement that the likely cause of the evacuation was "localized exposure to carbon monoxide." No further details about the patients’ conditions have been released.

Officials continue to investigate the incident, and the building remains closed while safety checks are conducted.
