Against the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacking P Chidambaram over his admission in an interview that India did not retaliate after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks due to global pressure, the senior Congress leader and then-Home Minister finally broke his silence.

Calling PM Modi’s attack on him a figment of imagination, Chidambaram tweeted, "It is disappointing to read that the Hon'ble prime minister of India imagined the words and attributed them to me."

Citing a media report quoting PM Modi, Chidambaram said that all the assertions made by the Prime Minister about him were "terribly wrong."

"The statement has three parts, and each one of them is WRONG, terribly WRONG," he said.
