IRONDALE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Some educators in Jefferson County Schools are getting money from the city of Irondale in hopes of retaining principals and teachers in schools.

This week, the Irondale City Council voted to allocate $30,000 for retention stipends for principals in Jefferson County Schools within the city limits. Principals at Shades Valley High School, Irondale Middle School, and Irondale Community School will receive $10,000 each.

The city is providing the stipends to principals who have been at a public school within the city for at least one year.

Mayor James Stewart, Jr. tells WBRC there’s been turnover with principals in the schools and says this money is designed to keep administrators there so they can improve the schools overall.
