CHEYENNE — The state’s top elected officials met Wednesday to discuss several items including the new law effectively repealing gun-free zones statewide. The discussion was relatively brief but marked by dispute as some of the officials butted heads when discussing the history of the bill.

Wyoming House Bill 172, the Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act, which passed in 2025, eliminated most state-level gun-free zones, allowing individuals with valid permits or who are compliant with the state’s permitless carry law to carry concealed weapons in many public locations.

At the September meeting of the State Building Commission, Gov. Mark Gordon, who is also the chairman of the commission, introduced the review and adoption of rule revisions related to firearms in public buildings.
