After months of trying to unload its Northside theater as part of a financial restructuring plan, Virginia Rep has finally inked a deal with a buyer.

The performing arts organization this week sold the 50,000-square-foot former Scottish Rite Temple at 4204 Hermitage Road to a Hindu religious group for $2.8 million, according to online property records.

The sale caps off Virginia Rep’s short-lived ownership of the property, which features a 650-seat theater, 400-plus-seat banquet hall, office space and other facilities on a 5-acre site. Virginia Rep bought it for $3.5 million in 2022. The property’s assessed value is $4.6 million.
