A Western Australian man whose car collided with a freight train near Albany, killing his wife, has been charged with careless driving nearly three months after the fatal crash.
Haydn Mansell was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Triton when it struck a CBH grain train at an ungated level crossing on Redmond-Hay River Road in July.
The impact claimed the life of his 29-year-old wife, Cailee Mansell, who was in the passenger seat.
Police have now charged Mr Mansell with driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, alleging he failed to take proper precautions at the rural crossing - located about 400 kilometres south of Perth.
