We're now five weeks into the NFL season, and there have certainly been a few unexpected contenders who are emerging.
Two AFC South teams, the Colts and Jaguars, are 4-1 after the former earned a blowout win over the Raiders while the latter outlasted the Chiefs in a thrilling Monday Night Football duel in Week 5. In Sunday Night Football, the Patriots also made a statement with a gutsy road win against the division rival Bills.
Now, the New York Jets stand alone as the single winless team in the league in 2025 as the Titans and Saints earned their first wins of the season over the Cardinals and Giants, respectively.
It's another intriguing slate of NFL contests in Week 6 as we approach the middle of the season. Here are the picks against the spread from our expert staff.
Name | Week 5 Record | 2025 Record |
Prince Grimes | 6-8 | 35-40-3 |
Charles Curtis | 9-5 | 34-41-3 |
Cory Woodroof | 9-5 | 36-39-3 |
Robert Zeglinski | 10-4 | 39-36-3 |
Christian D'Andrea | 9-5 | 35-40-3 |
Tyler Nettuno | 5-9 | 39-36-3 |
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants (Thursday Night Football)
Opening Line: Eagles -7
Grimes: Eagles -7.5
A perfect get-right game for the Eagles, unfortunately.
Curtis: Eagles -7.5
The defense will get to Jaxson Dart, the offense will get right in a short week.
Zeglinski: Eagles -7.5
There's no reason to trust the Eagles' offense against anyone. Similarly, there's no reason to trust Jaxson Dart against the Eagles' defense, which should be enough for the defending champs to rebound.
D'Andrea: Eagles -7.5
Philly hasn't beaten anyone by more than seven points this season. It also hasn't played a team as bad as New York.
Nettuno: Eagles -7.5
The Giants are facing a division rival in prime time. Need I say more?
Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets (Sunday morning, in London)
Opening Line: Broncos -6.5
Grimes: Broncos -7.5
Points will be harder to come by than they already are for the Jets.
Curtis: Jets +7.5
I don't know. Weird stuff happens overseas! The Jets could cover!
Zeglinski: Broncos -7.5
I look forward to Justin Fields finally completing passes and producing well once the Jets are down three scores in the fourth quarter.
D'Andrea: Jets +7.5
New York's a little better on the road and Denver has to deal with a trap game and an overseas locale all in one.
Nettuno: Broncos -7.5
This could be a potential letdown spot against a winless team, but I just don't see it.
Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers
Opening Line: Cowboys -1.5
Grimes: Cowboys -3
Dak Prescott should light up Carolina's secondary.
Curtis: Cowboys -3
This should be a good one for Dak Prescott to shine in.
Zeglinski: Cowboys -3
Dallas is quietly one of the NFL's most interesting teams. I will respect the Panthers when they finally earn it.
D'Andrea: Cowboys -3
Carolina course-corrected against the league's worst defense. Dallas is a much different challenge -- with an offense that won't let off the gas.
Nettuno: Cowboys -3
The Panthers are just going to do the opposite of whatever I pick anyway, so I may as well go with the better team.
Los Angeles Chargers at Miami Dolphins
Opening Line: Chargers -2.5
Grimes: Dolphins +4.5
Injuries are piling up for the Chargers, who haven't been all that impressive to begin with.
Curtis: Dolphins +4.5
The Chargers are in such a weird place, so I'll take the points.
Zeglinski: Dolphins +4.5
(Checks Joe Alt's injury status) OK, yeah. Give me the Dolphins to cover. Sorry, Justin Herbert.
D'Andrea: Dolphins +4.5
I trust the Chargers so little right now, and Miami has the edge rushing to keep this offense from coming alive.
Nettuno: Chargers -4.5
Choosing to believe LA isn't about to completely collapse.
Seattle Seahawks at Jacksonville Jaguars
Opening Line: Jaguars -1.5
Grimes: Seahawks +1
Riding with the Seahawks defense to get some key stops.
Curtis: Jaguars -1
The Jags are a shocking 4-1 team but I think they pull this one out at home.
Zeglinski: Seahawks +1
I finally believe in the Jaguars but I functionally think they're the same team as Seattle. That, to me, should make this a push.
D'Andrea: Jaguars -1
I have genuinely no idea how this game will turn out, so I'm gonna ride the hotter side.
Nettuno: Jaguars -1
There's been a tad bit of flukiness in the Jags' 4-1 start, but this is a very solid football team playing with all the momentum at home.
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers
Opening Line: Steelers -6.5
Grimes: Steelers -5.5
Though I expect Cleveland to play this game close, I can't lay points with them again after last week's blown cover.
Curtis: Steelers -5.5
They'll clamp down on Dillon Gabriel and find a way against a tough Browns defense.
Zeglinski: Steelers -5.5
The Steelers are about to win the most fraudulent AFC North title since the last time they won the AFC North title.
D'Andrea: Steelers -5.5
Pittsburgh, coming off the bye and against a rookie QB making his second career start? Aaron Rodgers will probably get battered, but should do enough to win.
Nettuno: Steelers -5.5
Dillon Gabriel makes the Browns somewhat intriguing, but not in this game.
Los Angeles Rams at Baltimore Ravens
Opening Line: Ravens -5.5
Grimes: Rams -7.5
I bet the Ravens sit their injured guys another week and bring them back after the Week 7 bye.
Curtis: Rams -7.5
After last week? It's clear the Ravens' defense is down bad. Yikes.
Zeglinski: Rams -7.5
It sounds like the Ravens are, again, going to be without basically all of their best and most important players. Advantage Rams. Actually, BIG advantage.
D'Andrea: Ravens +7.5
Feels like we're getting close to Baltimore's breaking point -- which means we might see Lamar Jackson grit this one out. That should be enough, at home against a west coast team, to at least cover.
Nettuno: Rams -7.5
I don't see how Baltimore wins assuming Lamar Jackson is out.
Arizona Cardinals at Indianapolis Colts
Opening Line: Cardinals -1.5
Grimes: Colts -6.5:
Something is off with the Cardinals.
Curtis: Colts -6.5
Oy, Cardinals.
Zeglinski: Colts -6.5
Don't be surprised if the Cardinals start free-falling after what might finish as the NFL's most embarrassing and demoralizing loss this season.
D'Andrea: Colts -6.5
Arizona is mid again, Indianapolis, remarkably, is not.
Nettuno: Colts -6.5
You don't get to lose to the Titans and then have me pick you against the Colts. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints
Opening Line: Patriots -3
Grimes: Patriots -3.5
The Pats might finally be turning a corner.
Curtis: Patriots -3.5
A little hesitant here but yes, the Pats are starting to look like a good team.
Zeglinski: Patriots -3.5
The Saints are fun but they're not good enough to really make Drake Maye uncomfortable.
D'Andrea: Patriots -3.5
Drake Maye's gonna keep riding this wave, and Christian Gonzalez's return has been the boost New England's secondary needed.
Nettuno: Patriots -3.5
Drake Maye and the Pats are a bit tougher than Jaxson Dart and the Giants.
Tennessee Titans at Las Vegas Raiders
Opening Line: Raiders -3
Grimes: Titans +4.5
I picked the Raiders to win this game, but I don't feel good about.
Curtis: Titans +4.5
Cam Ward is starting to wake up and the Raiders look like they're going to bed.
Zeglinski: Titans +4.5
What on Earth so far suggests that the Raiders deserve this kind of line? Las Vegas has not separated itself from a team with a rookie No. 1 overall pick. That means something!
D'Andrea: Raiders -4.5
Las Vegas so badly needs to figure its stuff out. But it turns out you can beat the Titans as long as you don't repeatedly beat yourself in the dumbest possible ways.
Nettuno: Raiders -4.5
Both these teams stink. I'll assume Vegas doesn't also drop the ball at the goal line.
San Francisco 49ers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Opening Line: Bucs -1.5
Grimes: 49ers +3
The Bucs are 4-1 and haven't won a single game by more than a field goal.
Curtis: Buccaneers -3
This is definitely going to be a push, isn't it?
Zeglinski: Buccaneers -3
Baker Mayfield looks like a man on a mission. If I had an MVP vote, he would be my pick right now. Sorry, Niners.
D'Andrea: Bucs -3
I'm done betting against Tampa Bay until I get hard proof their late-game skullduggery is over.
Nettuno: Bucs -3
This feels like a complete toss-up, so I guess I'll pick the home team.
Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay Packers
Opening Line: Packers -3
Grimes: Packers -14
This spread is massive, but Joe Flacco just got in the building. I don't see how this goes well for Cincy.
Curtis: Packers -14
Good luck, Joe Flacco.
Zeglinski: Packers -14
Good lord. This Bengals offense, with Joe Flacco, is asking for trouble against Micah Parsons.
D'Andrea: Packers -14
Oh man they're gonna take so much of that Browns game frustration out on poor ol' man Flacco.
Nettuno: Packers -14
I almost never pick the favorite when the spread is this big in the NFL. The lifeless Bengals and zombie Joe Flacco make this an exception.
Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs (Sunday Night Football)
Opening Line: Chiefs -3
Grimes: Lions +2.5
Wait, the Lions are underdogs? Curious.
Curtis: Lions +2.5
... Why are the Lions dawgs? Thanks oddsmakers!
Zeglinski: Lions -2.5
Detroit looks like a hungry team that is firing on all cylinders right now. I see zero reason to give Patrick Mahomes the benefit of the doubt against this kind of squad as the Chiefs' season teeters off-kilter.
D'Andrea: Lions +2.5
Detroit is the better team. Kansas City badly needs a win, but where does it have the edge aside from quarterback?
Nettuno: Lions +2.5
I have a hard time believing Kansas City falls to 2-4, but the Lions are just the better team.
Buffalo Bills at Atlanta Falcons (Monday Night Football)
Opening Line: Bills -5.5
Grimes: Bills -4.5
I expect a big bounce-back performance from Josh Allen after last week's loss to the Pats.
Curtis: Bills -4.5
They should bounce back and win big.
Zeglinski: Bills -4.5
The Bills are shaky (on defense), but they're not "We can't trust them against the Falcons" shaky.
D'Andrea: Falcons +4.5
I dunno man, I feel sneakily confident in Atlanta's ability not to get in its own way at home. Which means it will get in its own way at home.
Nettuno: Bills -4.5
Perfect bounce-back spot for Buffalo.
Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders (Monday Night Football)
Opening Line: Commanders -4.5
Grimes: Bears +4.5
Oh man. Back at the site of the Hail Mary that sent these teams on different trajectories last season. Give me the points with Chicago in a close battle.
Curtis: Bears +4.5
Shocked this isn't -3.5, so I'll take that free point.
Zeglinski: Bears +4.5
Chicago is getting some much-needed defensive reinforcements in the form of T.J. Edwards' and Kyler Gordon's respective returns from injury. I also think there's a revenge factor here for the Bears after last year's humiliating Hail Mary defeat to Washington. Put another way: This is a growth opportunity for Caleb Williams and Co. that I think they want to and will maximize.
D'Andrea: Bears +4.5
I swear to god if they lose on another Hail Mary they're gonna have to deploy federal troops to -- what's that? Oh. Hmm.
Nettuno: Commanders +4.5
I'm still not a believer in the Bears yet.
