It’s not a state of emergency, but officials in the capital city are asking people to conserve water after an unusually dry year.
Scant precipitation since this summer’s drought means water levels haven’t been able to rebound.
All three feeder systems – Bay Bulls Big Pond, Petty Harbour Long Pond, and Windsor Lake – are low, and other municipalities which tap into the system have been told that they should also conserve water where possible.
Deputy City Manager of Public Works, Lynnann Winsor, says water levels are the lowest they’ve seen in 16 years when levels were four feet below normal.
She reassures residents that the action being taken is proactive, and that levels will rise.
“(The last time we had to announce) that the water was this low was in 2009. And the difference being in
