HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (CW39) — The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office (HCFMO) is joining fire safety educators nationwide for Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 5–11. This year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” is about how to safely buy, charge, and recycle lithium-ion batteries, which are now found in most gadget devices like phones, laptops, and e-bikes.
The HCFMO Outreach Team said that their goal is to cut back on fire-related injuries and deaths by educating children, adults, and teachers on how to stay safe in case of a fire. Through community events and public education efforts, they're trying to raise awareness about the risks of improper battery use and sharing simple steps everyone can take to protect their homes.
