OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. — In a special meeting, a unanimous decision by the Oldham County Board of Education voted to not allow the Oldham County Public Schools District to implement off-campus religious programs during school hours.
The school board is considering a partnership with the religious organization LifeWise that would allow students to be excused from school for up to one hour each week to attend an off-campus religious program.
The new law, Senate Bill 19, brought the decision to the board. The bill was passed by the Kentucky General Assembly, vetoed by Gov. Andy Beshear, and then state legislators overturned his veto.
