Derrick Groves, the last of 10 inmates on the run after escaping from the New Orleans jail in May, was recaptured following a standoff with police in Atlanta Wednesday.
The 27-year-old convicted killer had been on the lam for nearly five months when he was apprehended around 1 p.m. at a home on Honeysuckle Lane in southwest Atlanta, according to the U.S. Marshals. Groves was considered the most violent of the inmates, and his whereabouts had been the subject of nationwide speculation for months.
Groves is linked to the killings of four people in the New Orleans metro. He was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder in October 2024 and pleaded guilty to manslaughter in two separate cases.
