SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) -- A 26-year-old was arrested Wednesday in connection to an ongoing sexual assault investigation in the Wagram area of Scotland County, the sheriff's office said.

Shawn Michael Mintz, of Polkton, North Carolina, was charged with statutory rape of a child under 15 years old and two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult. He is being held without bond in the Scotland County Detention Center.

The Scotland County Criminal Investigations Division and the Special Victims Unit began the investigation after a report was received on Sunday.
