High stakes: Gov. Mike DeWine declared a public health emergency on Wednesday over intoxicating hemp products in Ohio, essentially banning sale of the products, at least temporarily, Mary Frances McGowan and Jeremy Pelzer report. Retailers have until next Tuesday to remove products and cease sales. After that, local and state authorities will have the power to seize products. DeWine’s order will last for 90 days. After that, the order will automatically expire unless state lawmakers vote to extend it. Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman said he thinks DeWine’s order “stirs up the water” and will prompt action. But another Republican lawmaker, an advocate for marijuana access, intends to seek a vote to end DeWine’s hemp order by early November.
