The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) announced the opening of Phase One of Elevation in Montgomery on October 8, 2025. Elevation is a research center, a convening space, an art gallery and a theater that also offers overnight accommodations.
The EJI offers legal assistance to low-income individuals and those who have been wrongfully convicted or unfairly sentenced. The organization is dedicated to challenging racial and economic injustice, as well as protecting the basic human rights of the most vulnerable members of American society. A renowned public interest lawyer and the author of the best-selling book “Just Mercy,” Bryan Stevenson, founded the organization in 1989, aiming to provide resources to the community.
