The Senate is scheduled to vote on Oct. 9 on competing proposals to reopen the government, but it’s unlikely that either proposal will be successful to end the shutdown as it enters its ninth day.

The votes come after six previous failed attempts, and there are no signs that the results will differ this time as most Democrats continue to insist on remedying healthcare.

The longest government shutdown was under the first Trump administration and lasted 35 days.
