SHELBY, N.C. (WBTV) - A woman was accused of recently stealing someone’s identity to land a teaching position in Cleveland County, according to police.
Records showed 58-year-old Janet Martin was arrested in South Carolina on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and faces multiple charges related to the situation.

The investigation began on Friday, Aug. 15, after authorities were notified of a fraud-related incident in Gwinnett County, Georgia. According to police, the case involved the misuse of a local resident’s Social Security number.
Detectives later determined that the suspect, Martin, had fraudulently used the number to obtain employment with Cleveland County Schools.
